The Chelsea Village Co-op, the first housing cooperative of its kind in Chelsea, offers an innovative model for homeownership that combines community living with environmental responsibility.
Located in the Meredith District, near bike paths, ski trails, and Nordik Spa-Nature, it promises an exceptional living environment.
The project will include 40 units spread across two three-storey buildings, offering one- and two-bedroom homes (ranging from 513 to 819 sq. ft.) with delivery scheduled for 2026. Thanks to the cooperative model, units are priced 25% below market value, making homeownership more accessible—particularly for first-time buyers.
The cooperative structure is simple: the Foundation for the Development of Cooperative Housing in Quebec owns the land, while the co-op owns the buildings and sells members a right of use. Upon resale, the member recovers their initial capital and 40% of the capital gain, thereby limiting real estate speculation and ensuring community stability.
Beyond affordability, the co-op promotes democratic collective management, where members participate in decision-making, fostering a strong sense of community. The project also emphasizes eco-responsible practices, including the use of sustainable materials and a LEED certification goal.
In short, the Chelsea Village Co-op represents a human and sustainable solution — equitable access to homeownership, vibrant community living, and a deep commitment to the environment, all within a unique natural setting.
